FAA Requirements for Private Pilot Certificate
(Airplane Single-Engine Land)
Per FAA regulation 14 CFR §61.109(a), the minimum required flight training includes:
Minimum Total Flight Hours
40 hours total flight time, including:

20 hours of flight training with an authorized instructor

10 hours of solo flight training
Breakdown includes:

3 hours cross-country training

Realistic Training Timeline
